Tip: Go invisible in iChat

You know those times when you go online to chat with Lois, and Jimmy says hey Clark, howsitgoin? You’re not in the mood, but Jimmy’s sensitive, so you politely chat for a moment, though you’d really rather chat with Lois.

Next time, go invisible. Before you sign on, set your status in iChat to invisible. Now you can see your friends, but they can’t see you.

Now you’re free to initiate a chat with Lois without Jimmy knowing you’re online.

    Clark might want to re-think his buddy icon, though, in case he ever goes visible again.

    It’s the weirdest thing, because I can’t go invisible on iChat.
    In my status section, there is no “invisible” option.
    Where on earth did it go?
    It’s infuriating.
    Help help help.

    Note for Madison if he/she happens to see this - the Invisible feature works with AIM, but it doesn’t work with Jabber, or at least not with our Jabber server. If you are only connected to Jabber, there will be no Invisible option in the Status menu. It may work with other services then just AIM, but those are the two I am sure of. It’s a shame, because my PC using colleagues have the Invisible option when on Jabber.

    Bummer. I only have iChat 3.1.9. No invisible option for me. :P
