Apple stock about to jump by 40%?
Jim Goldman at cnbc.com points out that “Apple is typically up 40 percent between now and the end of the year”.
| Year | Aug | Dec | Gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | $17 | $32 | 90% |
| 2005 | $45 | $72 | 60% |
| 2006 | $68 | $84 | 40% |
| 2007 | $138 | $180 | 30% |
| 2008 | $173 | ? |
If AAPL were to rise 40% from present levels, it would be at $241 by the end of the year.
Hard to believe, but wow.
But usually by now there has been some sort of huge rumor already making the rounds. Last year it was the MacBook Air, the year before that; iPhone - the best rumor floating around right now is a subscription service - blah and possibly a tabletMac - also kind of blah and rehashed rumor fodder.
Hard to believe, indeed. According to those numbers, the percentage gain is actually falling by ~30% each successive year. If that trend continues, Apple would be expected to post “only” a 20% gain by Dec 2008, or just back over $200.
Not likely in this market. Notice the % gain diminishes every year.
Try 20% for 2008. That would put it somewhere just over 200.
Thats believable.
I’m hoping for at least 20% in this economy and I’ll just have to be satisfied. I don’t want to build my hopes too high and end up disappointed. I’ll look upon it as doing much better than any of it’s peers, well maybe not as good as RIM, but the majority of the computer and handset industry.
Analysts are throwing around some really high numbers for Apple, but WS doesn’t pay any attention to such over-inflated numbers regarless of how much potential Apple has for growth in many areas. If Apple can gain $30 in share price by the end of the year, I’ll gladly take it.
40%? I’ll be ecstatic to get back to 190 (10%?) by December. Ecstatic, I tell you!
This year doesn’t need rumours. Though we all know Apple has new Macbooks and other goodies on the way, including the iSlate…
Predictions of 10m Macs in this financial year and predictions of 40 to 45m iPhones being manufactured over the next 12 months is enough to push APPL well through 200.
How about down by 50%?
